Welcome to the Mesozoic Series

The Mesozoic Series of large format KS2 & KS3 books offer the young reader aged eight years and upwards a combination of illustrations and non-fiction storyline inspired by the natural history from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods of Britain and the fossil record of the Jurassic Coast of Dorset and East Devon designated a natural UNESCO World Heritage Site.

"Inspiring curiosity,  fascination and understanding

about our natural environment"

Meet Ellie

The Mesozoic Series of books are the first KS2 & KS3 illustrative children’s books created in collaboration with Fossil Coast Books Co by debut illustrator Eleanor "Ellie" Western a recent graduate in Illustration from the University of Falmouth.

This series of books chronicles 186 million years of Earths history during the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. This was a time that saw the evolution and extinction of the dinosaurs and also significant environmental upheaval brought about by the break up of the supercontinent of Pangaea. Each book illustrates the impact of sea level and climate change on the biodiversity of plants and animals at the time.

Our hope is that our research and illustrations encourage courageous advocacy by young reader's by helping them to discover the past so they can better understand the present in terms of environmental protection, climate action and biodiversity loss.

The Jurassic Coast

The Jurassic Coast of Dorset and East Devon provides an almost continuous rock and fossil record spanning nearly 186 million years of Earth's history including the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods of the Mesozoic Era which date back to between 252 and 66 million years ago. The Jurassic Coast is a 155Km stretch of coastline between Orcombe Point near the town of Exmouth in Devon and Old Harry Rocks near Swanage in Dorset. The Jurassic Coast was designated as England's first natural UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.
